St. Patrick's Day Limerick Competition! Posted by Roary Scrawl on March 17, 2010

Hold onto your Shamrocks Lassies & Laddies, 'cause it's St. Patrick's Day! To celebrate, we're having a Limerick Competition. Read on to find out more.

A limerick is a five-lined poem. The last word in the first two lines rhyme with the last word in the last line and the third and fourth lines' last words rhyme with each other. AABBA is the form. Hey, that's my favorite band!
Here's a limerick I wrote about a friend of mine:
Who liked to sing lots of ditties
One day she got hoarse
From Toad Soda of course
Now her voice is not so pretty
Here's a form you can use to help:
Every day s/he ________________
But whenever s/he _____
The ________________
That strange _______ from _______.

Here's how to enter:
1) Compose your original Moshi-rific limerick
2) Type it in a COMMENT in THIS blog
3) Sit back and relax and read them as they come in!
4) Wait for the winners to be announced, right here in The Daily Growl

The winners of this competition will receive a BLARNEY STONE sized Rox prize.

Yesterday's Random Rox winners are puttaka, hannahkatheriney, and 500poppy.
Ps. To celebrate this very GREEN day, we've reduced the price of GREEN for your monster's enjoyment. Hey, what's GREEN made out of anyway? Smooshed leprechauns?
Keep your eyes at hand... and on the Gross-ery for discounted GREEN!

Pi Day Contest - SPLAT! Posted by Roary Scrawl on March 12, 2010

Sunday is March 14th, or 3/14. Also known as PI DAY around the world. 3, 1, and 4 are significant. Who knows why? Because they're "Pi." Let's spy why Pi isn't pie.

I asked Tamara Tesla what Pi is and she PIED ME! It was HILARIOUS.

After I wiped the pie out of my eyes, she explained it to me like this, "Pi is 3.14159... It goes on forever! Pi is the number you get when you divide the distance around a circle (the CIRCUMFERENCE) by the distance across it (the DIAMETER)."

Pretty brainy stuff! So no matter how big your circle is, Pi stays the same. It's always going to be 3.14159... You can even do an experiment at home. You'll just need a measuring tape, something circular (like a tin can) and a calculator. Ask your parents for help if you need it.
Now for my FAVORITE part of Pi Day... the PI DAY CONTEST!
Comment in this blog with your ideas for alternate uses for PIES. The most monster-rific idea will win a HUMONGOUS Rox prize. Here's some examples to get your creative pie juices flowing:

(Mmmmmm delicioushhly delectable edible tasty math. Mmmmmmm) Be sure to include a brief description of your creation.

Yesterday's Random Rox winners are lorriehellokitty, tinmanc, and Elle-x1.
Keep your eyes at hand... and watch out for flying pies this weekend!
